Keeping Dental Patients Comfortable in West Palm Beach

Keeping Dental Patients Comfortable in Juno Beach

Pain isn’t fun. Your West Palm Beach dentist knows this, and that is why the dental team at Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry have made patient comfort a top priority. In conjunction with creating a relaxing environment, your dentist has various medications that can reduce and even eliminate pain associated with different dental procedures to give you a more enjoyable experience.

Some of the most common pain-relieving medications used in West Palm Beach dentist offices and around the country are topical anesthetics. These are swabbed directly onto mouth tissue so they only numb the very surface layers. Topical anesthetics can reduce the pain of mouth sores, or they can be applied to prepare the mouth for an injection.

Local anesthetics are injected into mouth tissue (usually the gums) to block the nerve sensations to specific areas of the mouth. West Palm Beach area dentists numb the mouth in this way before filling cavities, treating gum disease, or before certain cosmetic dentistry procedures.

More involved dental procedures may necessitate the need for nitrous oxide or even general anesthesia. Ask us about sedation dentistry and oral conscious sedation.

It is very common for your dentist to recommend an over the counter analgesic to relieve pain after a dental visit. These medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen.

Because your West Palm Beach cosmetic dentist will most likely use a pain reliever during the dental visit or prescribe something for you to take after the treatment, make sure you jot down a complete list of medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, before each appointment.

I’m Dr. Brion Weinberg and I want West Palm Beach residents to be informed about their dental care, especially as it pertains to pain relief during dental treatment. If you are in the West Palm Beach area and are looking for quality dental care, please contact my office today at (561) 420-0770. Our honest and technologically advanced staff would be happy to talk to you about sedation dentistry, dental implants, emergency dental care, root canals, and the other services we offer.

Oral Health For North Palm Beach Diabetics

January 27th, 2012

Oral Health For Palm Beach Gardens Diabetics

Today’s cosmetic dental article is entitled ‘Oral Health For North Palm Beach Diabetics.’ Many North Palm Beach people with diabetes have dental problems. However, gum disease, tooth loss, and periodontal disease are not unavoidable.

Blood sugar is the complicating factor. North Palm Beach diabetics who control their blood sugar have lower rates of dental problems. In fact, many North Palm Beach dentists have noticed no increased risk of dental disease among diabetics who maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

When blood sugar levels rise, the amount of sugars and starches increase in your mouth. These substances combine with the bacteria naturally present to create enamel-eroding plaque. Untreated plaque creates cavities.

In addition to cavities, North Palm Beach dental patients with diabetes need to be vigilant about their gums and oral health. Because diabetes can make it harder to control the growth of bacteria, the amount of plaque in your mouth can multiply quicker. Plaque not only causes cavities, it inflames and weakens gum tissue and eventually the bone surrounding teeth.

Untreated gum disease progresses to periodontitis, a more severe infection. Because North Palm Beach diabetics have a lower resistance to infection, it can be difficult to reverse periodontitis in people with diabetes. To make matters even worse, the presence of infection can make it harder to maintain a healthy blood sugar level.

Bottom line? 1: Brush and floss regularly to prevent plaque build-up. 2: See your North Palm Beach dentist for twice-yearly cleanings to remove any plaque and tartar that has accumulated under the gumline.

Dr. Weinberg of Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry is accepting new patients in the North Palm Beach area. We can help diabetic dental patients keep their smile beautiful. If you are in need of cosmetic dentistry because of diabetes related decay or gum disease, we can restore your beautiful smile with the latest tooth restoration options. Ask us about crowns, dental implants, implant anchored dentures, porcelain veneers, inlays/onlays, and same-day restorations.

Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry is located at 14050 US Highway 1 in Juno Beach. Call us at (561) 420-0770 to schedule a consultation. Thanks for visiting the Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry North Palm Beach dentistry blog!

North Palm Beach Dentist: Calming Root Canal Fears

January 6th, 2012

Florida Dentist Calms Root Canal Fears In North Palm Beach, a dentist’s office is sometimes seen as a painful and scary place. Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry located at 14050 US Highway 1 Juno Beach, Florida 33408 tries to discourage that image with an honest and technologically advanced staff and qualified dentists. However, endodontic therapy, a dental procedure commonly known as a root canal, still carries a strong association with pain that sometimes keeps people from regularly visiting the dentist and tending optimally to their oral health.

When a tooth becomes badly infected or decayed, a qualified dentist in North Palm Beach can clean the inside of the tooth by removing the bacteria, soft tissue (called pulp), decayed nerve tissue, and any debris that may be causing the tooth infection from the inside of the tooth. Your qualified dentist will then seal the tooth to prevent further decay and finish by applying a porcelain crown or filling. This is the process and purpose of a root canal. The process can be completed, typically, in just a few visits to your North Palm Beach restorative dentistry practice. In many cases, a root canal procedure is a better option than removing the infected tooth since it allows you to keep your natural tooth.

Teeth that are more prone to requiring a root canal procedure in North Palm Beach are cracked or chipped, have received repeated dental procedures, have been damaged by trauma to the face, or are suffering from deep tooth decay. Wearing a mouth guard can help prevent damage sustained to teeth and practicing good oral hygiene habits, such as daily flossing and brushing, coupled with regular dental visits, can reduce the possibility of needing a dental root canal.

Though a root canal can be intimidating or scary, educating yourself and talking to your local dentist in the North Palm Beach area can relieve much of your anxiety. Root canals are often not painful, and for many people the pain of the infection experienced beforehand is worse than any pain that might be experienced during the procedure, and the relief is well worth the trouble.

If you are in the North Palm Beach area, you can give Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry a call at (561) 420-0770 to see what we can do for your oral health.

Toothache Pain The Size of West Palm Beach

December 16th, 2011

Juno Beach Tooth Whitening Patients often come into our West Palm Beach cosmetic dental practice and complain about ‘a toothache the size of West Palm Beach’. I understand this kind of pain, and realize that when you describe it like that, it really hurts. I can help.

Tooth pain for anyone in West Palm Beach can be unbearable. At the very least, toothache pain can cause you to avoid eating certain foods, certain temperatures, and even talking. A severe toothache can be downright debilitating, forcing patients to go to extreme measures to alleviate the pain.

Around West Palm Beach, the most common causes of a toothache include tooth infection, decay, injury, and loss of a tooth. Tooth pain can also occur after a tooth has been extracted, or after an oral surgery involving anything from a tooth or your jawbone.

I can help you better understand the source of your tooth pain, and in most cases can provide a nearly immediate remedy. In severe cases, we are equipped to council you on a variety of resolutions.

Of course, the best way to avoid toothache pain is to visit your West Palm Beach dentist often, and to care properly for your teeth and oral health including the regular regimen of brushing and flossing.

If you are experiencing toothache pain, and just can’t stand it any more, please give me a call; I am standing by to help.

Smokeless Is Not Harmless For North Palm Beach Tobacco Chewers

December 9th, 2011

Smokeless Is Not Harmless For Juno Beach Tobacco ChewersHello North Palm Beach cosmetic dental friends. Today’s topic is ‘The Dangers Of Smokeless Tobacco’.

Cigarette sales at most North Palm Beach stores have decreased in the past decade, but some North Palm Beach tobacco consumers have switched to smokeless products.

There is a common misconception in the North Palm Beach area (especially among teens) that smokeless tobacco is harmless. This is absolutely not true. Regardless of the specific type: spit tobacco, snuff, chew, or pinch, this form of tobacco is as deadly as conventional cigarettes.

At Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry, we encounter serious consequences of smokeless tobacco use because many occur in the mouth. Oral cancer, mouth lesions, gum disease and tooth decay are the most common dental health problems caused by smokeless tobacco in North Palm Beach.

Keeping a pinch between your cheek and gum all day is worse than keeping an all-day sucker. The tobacco contains almost as much sugar as the candy but delivers harmful chemicals as an added bonus. The dangers are two-fold: the tobacco erodes the teeth and also causes the gums to pull away from teeth often resulting in tooth pain or worse.

Precancerous Mouth Lesion Screening in North Palm Beach: Mouth Lesions are painful sores that could eventually become cancer. If smokeless tobacco use is stopped, the lesions often disappear within a year for North Palm Beach dental patients.

Oral Cancer in Juno Beach: Smokeless tobacco use in North Palm Beach increases the risk for several types of life-threatening cancers including those of the mouth, gums, lips, tongue, and throat.

Oral cancers can be as deadly as lung cancer and usually require surgery. If the North Palm Beach patient is fortunate and the cancer is successfully removed with surgery, the collateral damage to the face, neck, or jaw is not pretty.

These are the main dental risks of smokeless tobacco. I should also mention two other biggies: addiction and heart disease, though those are topics for another day.

At Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry in North Palm Beach, we perform oral health screenings during dental examinations. To schedule an appointment, call (561) 420-0770.

If want to quit using smokeless tobacco products, we recommend that you consult Dr. Weinberg at Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry, your North Palm Beach primary care doctor, or your local pharmacist.

Juno Beach Dental News: Poor Oral Health And Heart Disease

December 2nd, 2011

Top Juno Beach Family Dentists Attention Juno Beach dental patients: brushing twice daily may help lower your risk of heart disease. Scientists, dentists, and cardiologists have known for many years that there is a link between inflammation in the mouth (gum disease) and heart problems, However, a recent study analyzed oral health habits and heart disease risk. Science Daily reported on the study which was published in the British Medical Journal.

I quote from the Science Daily article:

“The authors, led by Professor Richard Watt from University College London, analyzed data from over 11,000 adults who took part in a Scottish Health Survey. The research team analyzed data about lifestyle behaviors such as smoking, physical activity, and oral health routines.”

“Once the data was adjusted for established cardio risk factors, the researchers found that participants who reported less frequent toothbrushing had a 70 percent extra risk of heart disease compared to individuals who brushed their teeth twice a day.”

I am Dr. Brion Weinberg DDS, FAGD of Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry. The Scottish survey is one of many that confirms the link between oral health and overall health. Simply put: you aren’t healthy unless your gums and teeth are healthy.

It doesn’t matter if you are a lean Juno Beach distance runner with a pulse of fifteen beats a minute and a blood pressure of 100 over 60. It doesn’t matter if you are a vegan who has eaten a nutritionally balanced, low-fat diet for the past five years. If you have inflamed gums and tooth decay, you are at risk for problems in other areas of the body.

The phone number for Center for Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry is (561) 420-0770. If you have concerns about your oral health, I invite you to schedule an examination today.

Perhaps your teeth and gums are healthy but you wish your smile was more attractive. We can help you there also with a smile redesign. Porcelain veneers, crowns, inlays/onlays, and clear braces are all available to solve any cosmetic problems you wish to correct.

If you have not visited a cosmetic dentist in Juno Beach yet, now is the time. My honest and technologically advanced team and I will help keep your smile beautiful for life.

Or call us at (561) 420-0770 to learn more.
